Fall Time is All Time

My favorite time of year to be on the water! The temps have finally subsided and the mornings have a cool feel to them. Most of the redfish are still schooled up from their late summer spawning and the bite has been extra hot on higher tides when the fish are a little more comfortable with their surroundings. With that said, we have had some mid day low tides in the past few weeks that have provided some great shots with the fly rod and had several eats from fish with their entire backs out of the water up as shallow as they can swim. I have been throwing small crab patterns with great success on those shallow water fish. The snook are transitioning from their summer locations and beginning to stack up near the creeks and dark bottom flats where they will be spending the next few months staying warm. With the first cold front of the season passing now as I write this, they should be taking the hint that winter is coming and continue to try and fatten up before the water temps drop too low. It’s a great time of year to be on the water. The crowds are light as most of the tourists are home with kids in school and the snowbirds haven’t made it down in large numbers yet. Most days I have been on the water it has been very quiet and I could fish any shoreline I wanted with no boats in sight, yet another reason why I love this time of year!
